Preheat the oven to 250 and put two baking trays into the oven.
Add the flour, baking powder, caster sugar and salt into a bowl. Then rub in the butter until you have a crumb mixture.
Using a knife stir in the buttermilk. do this gently.
Once you have a well mixed dough, put onto a flourer board.
Gently roll the dough into a disc about 1/2 inch thick.
Cut roughly into squares and then brush with milk.
Remove the hot baking trays, flour them and then put the scones on and return to the oven.
Cook for 10 minutes.
Remove from oven and place scones on a wire rack to cool
